Small Changes to Go Green!

Dr. Marisa has given us the skinny on plastics you really want to avoid in her blog post: https://www.ecofriendlyped.com/post/plastic.

So how can you start creating a budget- and eco-friendly, less plastic-y home when plastic and the harmful chemicals that come with it are EV-ER-Y-WHERE?

If you’re a hard-working, busy parent too, and the thought of eliminating the convenience of plastics from your life fills you with a bit of foreboding, then this post is for you!!

Here are some of my favorite “get started” tips. Although these are actually changes I'm making, it must be noted that as an Amazon affiliate, I may earn on qualified purchases through the links below!

  1. Switch out the bottled, store bought water for sustainable non-plastic bottles you can refill. Try filling multiple bottles with ice and water the night before so that your family can grab and go in the morning! For added goodness, try a sustainable water filter.

S'Well Stainless Steel Water Bottles -- these are amazing! They keep your drinks cold all day!!

Contigo -- the favorite for glass water bottles!!

KOR Waterfall -- a countertop water filtration system with a filter made of pure coconut shells! Not only is it eco-friendly, but it looks beautiful in your kitchen! It filters right into glass carafes, and you can add fruit, vegetables or herbs to infuse your water with flavor! Don't forget an extra filter!

  • Likewise with your morning coffee. Not only can you save money by making coffee at home, but you have the added bonus of not drinking it from a cup which is now leaching chemicals into your drink. After I wrote that, I started to wonder about my K-cups... no worries, there's a solution!!

Take it a step further with a reusable Organic Cotton or Stainless Steel Filter!!

And for those of you who love your Keurig too much to switch...

  • Use glass food storage containers. This one helped me out a lot. I really like to use glass bowls with locking lids, especially for hot foods. With these, you can safely re-heat food without extra dishes, mess, or toxins!

Pyrex Mixing Bowls -- A must have for meal prep and baking!!

  • Biodegradable or compostable dog waste bags. While we are awaiting our second canine addition, our single dog makes plenty of poop (usually three a day). That’s a ridiculous number of plastic bags that go directly in the trash and sit in a landfill for decades. What may seem like a small change can actually have a major impact on the environment over time!

Full disclaimer: this is new to me. I have a lot to learn, but I am determined to chip away at this bit by bit. I am so happy to have you along on the journey with me!!🤗
